So many projects, so little time.

It has been a month since I last posted– and what a busy month it has been! I had a coworker order an amigurumi elephant and octopus (similar to the ones in the previous post), another coworker wanted “Despicable Me” inspired scarf, another friend ordered a toddler panda hat and yet another person ordered a custom hat for her son. In between working on those projects, I’ve crocheted and crafted other things. I’m currently working on recycling my old clothing and crocheting them into mats, dishrags, etc.; anything we need around the house that I can get away not purchasing! Pictures of that endeavor will be up sometime in the future.

I am so excited about the possibilities crocheting opens up for me. It allows me to be creative, problem solve, relax, and find the entrepreneurial spirit within. I work in a preschool and have been thinking of using my crochet/craft skills to create something unique that gets the kids’ creative juices flowing… perhaps even teaching them how to crochet and really challenge those fine motor skills? Maybe not- some are still learning to hold a pencil correctly.

Anyway, here are the projects I’ve worked on/am currently working on:

This is the java jacket I worked on at The Coffee Plantation (a local coffee shop). It was a super quick project– and it will keep me from getting my hands burned when I order my super hot tea. I still have to perfect sewing on buttons (and sewing anything in general) to my crochet projects. I was also thinking of just making a bunch of these and try selling them through local coffee shops and/or Etsy… I’ll have to get the button sewing thing down first.

This is the “Despicable Me” inspired scarf– and the fine young man that now owns it.

Next is a quick project that was actually a free pattern from Fresh Stitches. I made this one on a whim to give to a friend who loves everything and anything related to the fall season. I had to improvise and modify the eyes a little bit- the nearby craft store didn’t carry doll eyes.

I made a Viking helm…. (pattern from mamachee on Etsy)

…and then there were two Viking helms…

And the last project I have to share is still in progress: the toddler panda hat:

I’ve got a few more projects to finish up and I’m sure friends and family will be asking for a few things before Christmas. I know that I want to try my hand at crocheting socks and maybe even mittens or gloves. The slippers from Crochet Today didn’t work out– I couldn’t get the gauge right to make them the right size for me. Hopefully I’ll be able to figure it out in the future.
